Make Your Summer Count with Creative Volunteering
Millions of Americans make a difference by giving their time to community organizations that help their neighbors. If you're looking for an outlet for your altruistic tendencies, you can help improve the educational possibilities for Central New York students by spending a little time at Partners for Arts Education (PAE), a local non-profit that helps bring the arts to K-12 students throughout the region.
PAE is participating in the White House Summer Service Initiative, a nationwide call to action which is coordinating opportunities for all Americans to serve their communities and the country.
PAE welcomes volunteers who could help this summer with light administrative tasks, including data entry, proofreading and checking their website (no technical expertise required), telephone work, etc., at their downtown office. Hours are flexible and the atmosphere is friendly and relaxed. There are also opportunities to participate as an intern in the summer ArtWorks program, which gives young adults a chance to investigate the careers of creative community members. PAE seeks undergraduate or graduate students with an interest in community arts, arts in education, or arts administration to help supervise young adults, mainly of high school age, as they explore various art forms, meet with and observe active arts professionals in the community, and document their discovery via journaling and a student-created website.
ArtWorks is affiliated with CNYWorks, a local not-for-profit that brings businesses, job seekers, and training providers together with the goal of providing skilled workers for every business and employment for every job seeker.
If you'd like to contribute your time, or would be interested in school-year opportunities, please contact Maureen at 234.9911. You can find out more about PAE's work at www.arts4ed.org.
