Professional Development for Artists Who Teach Continues October 24
The second session of the 2009-10 Artist Educator Workshop Series is coming up. On October 24 from 9 am until 12 pm, artists who work in educational settings (or would like to) can further their knowledge and understanding of issues in Learning Development. Creating successful designs for activities and sequences of creative engagement requires taking into account the age, stage, ability, perspective, and orientation of learners.

This is the second of seven Saturday morning sessions that began in September and will run through May. (See notes from the September 24 session.) All sessions are designed to be highly participatory and practical, and provide essential skills for artists engaged in classroom or community settings. Individual sessions are $10; advance enrollment for the series is $50. At-the-door registration is $15. Sessions meet at the PAE office in Syracuse (directions). You can find out more about the offerings and register at our website, or call the office at 234.9911.

Opportunities
Arts Education State-wide Census
The New York State Alliance for Arts Education in collaboration with the New York State Education Department is conducting a state-wide census of Arts Education programming, opportunities, and resources of every public school in the State. The NYS Arts Education Survey will be distributed as part of the annual Basic Educational Data System (BEDS) survey. This is the first time Arts Education has been examined this closely in New York State via the BEDS program. The NYS Arts Education Survey will consist of a total of ten questions. The data collected will provide an improved view into Arts Education programming.

We encourage you to find out who in your building is responsible for the completion of the BEDS survey and offer your help in gathering complete and accurate information to the NYS-AES. Through your efforts, we can ensure the best possible outcomes from this project. The compiled information will become a valuable tool in future efforts advocating for Arts Education in New York State.
